Join Philips Innovation & Design (I&D), Philips’ central enterprise R&D organization. I&D brings together deep hardware, software, systems, and AI expertise to help Philips businesses turn innovations into scalable, high-quality product solutions.
Within I&D, Innovation Engineering provides on-demand engineering capabilities and builds reusable technology platforms. The Electronic Systems & IoT cluster, part of Product & Systems Engineering, develops advanced electronic and digital solutions for healthcare and high-tech applications.
The Electronic Systems & IoT cluster focuses on embedded systems and connectivity for medical solutions. The Digital Processing team combines FPGA, GPU, embedded firmware on microcontrollers, and signal-processing expertise to develop medical devices such as interventional imaging, diagnostic imaging and patient monitoring systems. The team harnesses the massive parallel-processing capability of GPU platforms to accelerate computationally intensive image reconstruction, X-ray simulation, signal and image processing, 3D rendering, and AI inference in high-throughput, low-latency medical imaging applications.
In this role, you will use CUDA to create GPU-enabled compute platforms and data-processing pipelines efficient, robust, and ready for integration into medical-grade systems.
Functie-eisen
As a Senior GPU Engineer at Philips, you will work on the full lifecycle of firmware for medical devices—ranging from early prototypes to production‑ready solutions.
- Design, implement, and optimize high-performance C++ and CUDA software for GPU-accelerated digital processing applications.
- Translate computationally intensive signal-processing, image-processing, modelling, and AI algorithms into efficient GPU implementations.
- Analyze algorithms and implementations to deliver performance improvements through complexity reduction, parallelization, vectorization, memory optimization, computation reuse, data-movement reduction, and algorithm or kernel fusion.
- Design, profile, and optimize CUDA workloads, including kernels, memory bandwidth and access patterns, occupancy, execution efficiency, synchronization, kernel-launch overhead, CPU-GPU data transfers, and asynchronous execution using CUDA streams.
- Optimize end-to-end processing pipelines for latency, throughput, scalability, and resource utilization, while maintaining numerical correctness and required output quality.
- Collaborate with FPGA, electronics, firmware, systems, algorithm, and AI engineers to define efficient hardware-software partitions and integrate GPU processing into complete product architectures.
Competenties
- You hold a Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. An advanced degree is highly preferred.
- You are an expert in object-oriented design principles and patterns, with a strong track record of building maintainable, high-performance software.
- You have deep experience in GPU programming and CUDA performance optimization, including kernel design, memory hierarchy, bandwidth optimization, occupancy, synchronization, and CPU-GPU data movement.
- You have practical experience applying profiling and performance-analysis techniques to identify bottlenecks across CPU, GPU, memory, and synchronization boundaries, and can turn findings into measurable improvements.
- You bring a strong mathematical foundation. Experience with signal processing, image processing, numerical algorithms, computational modelling, physics-based simulation, or scientific computing is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with embedded compute platforms, high-bandwidth data paths, or hardware-software co-design is an advantage.

How we work together
We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week.
